A few bits and bobs on the lunchtime patch this week, including singing chiffchaffs at last – with one at Ponderosa on Wednesday (10th), and Crookes Valley Park on Thursday (11th). Very late for the first singing birds – I usually get one before the end of March. There are also no signs of blackcaps in the area yet either.
The great crested grebes were still present at Crookes Valley Park on Monday, but by Tuesday seem to have moved on, with no signs since. Other records for the week include a goldcrest singing in Crookes Valley Park and a sparrowhawk over Ponderosa on Monday, and a nuthatch in Weston Park on Wednesday.
Below is a slightly rubbish picture of a mistle thrush in CVP, just to make sure this post isn’t totally image-free!
