Last night I had a trip up to Redmires for the SBSG gull-roost trip. Despite a windy and drab evening, it was productive, with four yellow-legged gulls seen in total – one adult, one 2nd winter, and two 1st winters. Other birds around included a single swallow, a great spotted woodpecker, a few siskin calling, a smattering of lapwings and a teal, which sadly refused to become the garganey that was sighted the day before despite how hard I squinted at it down the scope.
Nice to also meet Chris, aka Penny Bun. Gull-spotting is an initiation by fire into the SBSG, and I hope she wasn’t too put off!
The photo above is of course a cheat – I took it in Italy earlier in the year. Keen-eyed readers would have already worked that out due to the lack of sunloungers up at Redmires…
