Another from the archives… last May a small group of dotterel turned up on Stanage Edge. I braved a stormy evening on the moors to find them, and got the most amazing views imaginable. The species is renowned for its tameness, and these let me get within a few feet – and even walked closer towards me while I took pictures.

I got a proper soaking on the way back, but it was well worth it for these beauties!

(It’s doubtful I’ll get out birding until at least Sunday this week, so you may be stuck with a few reminiscences like this for the next few days!)
