You have to salute those ardent patchers who do the daily trudge, and Dean Stables is one of the most dedicated patch-watching bloggers out there, updating daily about his travels through Cortonwood near Barnsley. It’s a deceptively unglamorous location, which due to its location nestled in the Dearne Valley attracts a wealth of passage species and a very impressive tally for an inland site. As well as birds, Dean is incredibly knowledgeable on all aspects of natural history, particularly inverts and plants, and his diary is well worth regular visits.
