I had a quick walk round Redmires this afternoon, and finally caught up with the whinchats that I’ve spent the summer managing to miss. There were two of them by the Middle Res, along with a slightly bullying male stonechat that kept chasing them off. Elsewhere there were also a couple of red grouse near the Top Res.
Sadly I was a too early in the day to catch the gull roost, meaning I didn’t get chance to squint through the assembled gulls for the 1st summer yellow-leg that’s been sighted there in recent weeks. In fact I only saw two gulls during my walk, which were both resolutely lesser black-backs.
After listing my future birding plans on the blog this morning, the car decided to start making weird chugging noises this afternoon and limped back home from the tram park and ride, meaning the Rutland trip may be off if it’s not an easily fixable job. Bugger!
